The project will be called ‘Portraits from the Precipice.

In October 2019, a "Portraits from the Precipice" project was announced. The artists were supposed to show in their works the process of global warming and its destructive impact on the planet, which results into extreme weather conditions and melting of the polar ice caps, which are the global problems that people have never faced before.

I was very keen to become a part of this project – not for the money, but in order to draw attention to "Portraits from the Precipice" to make people from all over the world know about this problem. So I started creating a collage. It wasn't difficult for me, I didn't have to rack my brains about the thing and knew what it would look like from the start. The inspiration came from Greta Thunberg and the children from all over the world who supported her, who joined the "Skolstrejk för klimatet" and "Fridays For Future, FFF" movements. Also, in August 2019 the Amazon rainforest wildfires in Brazil started. I've been worrying about these events and thought a lot about them. Shortly before the events happened, I started working on my "Extinct Animals" project, which is still in progress.

Having finished the collage, I applied for participation. But unfortunately, my work did not qualify. The project was very well organized (Octopus Energy and Artfinder): it was planned to hold exhibitions in November 2019 at the railway stations, in the underground and other public places in London to demonstrate publicly the support for activities against climate change.

I wanted people to see my work, but it didn't happen. I have some ideas why it wasn't selected.

As soon the collage was finished, my 7-year-old son came up to me, looked at the painting and asked: "Why are these adults sitting around doing nothing?" Now I realize that I actually showed the adults' indifference. But it wasn't the thing – I didn't want to discriminate anyone. The collage was to show that we all should unite to prevent what is shown in the work, otherwise the fire will come into our houses.

So why do I write this note? It's January 2020 now. I watch videos about wildfires in Australia – they are burning near the residential houses. It reminded me of my work (collage). I recollect the school strikes and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who called protesters on for "more learning and less activism". It would take a long time to recall who stood up for and who opposed the school strikes for climate. But we must not argue and blame one another. What we need is to help saving our planet, because we do not have another one.
